The VHS Scholarship is commemorating this major milestone with The Big Five Fun Walk, which supports the scholarship's 2026 fundrasing goal. You have an opportunity to participate in person, on June 27th OR virtually.

Your VHS Big Five Fun Walk registration gives you 55% off the 2026 VHS Bowling and Game Tournament Ticket. The tournament takes place Sunday, July 12 at 2pm and includes CASH prizes, bowling, games, paint party, food, music, gift bags giveaways, awards and MUCH MORE!

Live music and a HOT DJ throughout the event. Line dancing contests, Big Five Karaoke and a chance to win prizes.

Food Truck vendors will offer a variety of food, beverages and snacks.

Verdell H. Sanders (VHS) is a Charlotte, N.C. native and a humble man of service who utilized his trailblazing athletic skills to become a coach, teacher, trainer, protector and parental figure to many. Verdell worked in the Enderly Park (EP) community as the Recreation Center Director at Enderly Park Recreation Center for almost 30 years. Verdell H. Sanders is a Charlotte, N.C. native and a humble man of service who utilized his trailblazing athletic skills to become a coach, teacher, trainer, protector and parental figure to many. His natural sports ability allowed him an opportunity to attend college and his innate ability to care for and help others allowed him to become a leader and role model for many young men and women.
As a student at Harding High School, Verdell was a member of the marching band and concert band. He was also on Harding’s wrestling football and track teams where they won the Southern Division Championship and he was a national champion on the winning relay team. He received an athletic scholarship to Winston-Salem State University where he organized their very first wrestling team.
